This English catalogue is based on the exhibition Scenes of Banquets and Ceremonies of the Joseon Dynasty held in 2009 in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Korean Museums. It provides an opportunity to take a glimpse of various reflections of the celebratory social gatherings in the tradition culture of Korea. Customarily, when there was a memorable congratulatory event, the Koreans arranged a banquet to entertain with utmost sincerity. It was a widespread practice in every society. The records explicitly display the scenes of banquets where the participating guests are delightedly enjoying the drinks, dance and music, while the celebratory rituals are performed. Largely divided into two parts, the introduction and description of celebrating events and the essays, it will provide you with the occasion to experience the excitement and the underlying significance of the ceremonial culture in the Joseon period
