Milan Knížák is an artist whose work captivates and disturbs with its directness and unique ability to transcend artistic boundaries. Since the 1960s, he has gained international acclaim, often more so abroad than in his home country. His groundbreaking contributions have earned him a prominent place in major galleries, including MoMA in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. Knížák, a key figure in the Fluxus movement, is known for his innovative approach to art, which defies stagnation. The publication offers an “incomplete retrospective” of his work, showcasing a selection of his key actions, manifestos, and essays from the 1960s to today. It also features his poems, short stories, and notations for his rock band, Aktual, along with previously unpublished interviews from the late 1960s. This collection accompanies an exhibition project held from 2018 to 2019 across various galleries in the Czech Republic, including the Gallery of Art in Karlovy Vary and the Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín. Knížák’s relentless creativity and refusal to conform make his work a significant contribution to contemporary art.
