It seemed like a mad enterprise: three inexperienced cyclists setting out to pedal 6,500 miles up the Andes, from Tierra del Fuego to Lake Titicaca. After nearly a year and against the odds contending with grasshopper storms, deserts of volcanic ash and trigger-happy police the trio succeeded in their objective, also raising tens of thousands of pounds for the Leukaemia Research Fund. Battling with the language barrier, an addiction to chocolate and fuelled by copious amounts of vino, this is the story of the physical and emotional ups and downs experienced by three friends: the romantic, the stoic and the writer. Their journey tells of the awe-inspiring wilds, history and peoples of Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. What started as the adventure of a lifetime evolved into a voyage of discovery, comradeship and humour.
