In this biographical novel, Hura (her name translates to Free Woman) marries the Lord of Tetouan, dares escape his harem and becomes a 'pirate queen' to save her people from the invading Portuguese. Widowed, she matches wits with a Pasha, a King and a Sultan, is betrayed, captured and imprisoned. After escaping, she marries the Sultan of Fes but when he dies mysteriously she is finally sent into exile.
