The Early Stories 1883-88

Meer over het boek

This is the most representative selection of Chekhov's early comic and serious stories available in one volume in English. This selection, including the pastoral comedy Romance with Double-Bass, the absurdist comedy The Death of a Civil Servant, the hauntingly lyrical Easter Night, and the chilling Let Me Sleep, to name a few, exemplifies the masterful range of the young Chekhov. Rapture -- The death of a civil servant -- Incident at law -- Fat and thin -- The daughter of Albion -- Oysters -- A dreadful night -- Minds in ferment -- The complaints book -- The chameleon -- The huntsman -- The malefactor -- A man of ideas -- Sergeant Prishibeyev -- The misfortune -- Romance with double-bass -- The witch -- Grisha -- Kids -- Revenge -- Easter night -- The little joke -- The objet d'Art -- The chorus-girl -- Dreams -- The orator -- Vanka -- Verochka -- A drama -- Typhus -- Notes from the journal of a quick-tempered man -- The reed-pipe -- The kiss -- No comment -- Let me sleep.
