Due to severe health issues in his final months, Gunkel could not complete his manuscript and entrusted it to his student, Joachim Begrich, at Christmas 1931. After Gunkel's death in March 1932, Begrich finalized the work, which was released in 1933 as Einleitung in die Psalmen: die Gattungen der religiosen Lyrik Israels, providing insights into the genres of Israel's religious poetry.
