Jak je patrno z názvu zabývá se tato kniha historií nasazení stíhací eskadry JG 27. Tento dokument však velmi podrobně mapuje nejen osudy samotné jednotky, ale i jejích jednotlivých pilotů, kteří se účastnily bojů na všech frontách druhé světové války. Britské, francouzské, belgické, sovětské, řecké, italské, africké i německé nebe bylo svědkem jejich vítězství i pádů.

Podíl 5. stíhací eskadry - JG 5 Eismeer na bojových leteckých operacích během druhé světové války je pozoruhodný. Autor líčí boje na murmanské frontě, život posádek v primitivních podmínkách, zážitky ze sovětských zajateckých táborů, nálety anglo-amerických svazů a ztráty části eskadry odvelené k obraně Německa.
