Román zkoumá, co se stane, když „spořádaný“ člověk čelí mimořádné události. Jsou rozhodnutí postav nezvratná, nebo existuje cesta zpět? A chtějí se hrdinové na tuto cestu vůbec vydat? Témata jsou univerzální a rezonují s čtenáři napříč kontinenty.
