CAN YOU FEEL IT? - EFFECTUATING TACTILITY AND PRINT IN THE CONTEMPORARY
    • What exactly is the tactile, in a world in which a rising technocracy exploits the designed environment we feel? Who authorizes and who writes, what tradition do we stand in and how can we touch base? After endlessly hearing that Onomatopee publications have a materiality and tactility not often experienced in recent years, Onomatopee director and curator Freek Lomme decided to create an exhibition and publication addressing the issue of tactility and print today, accommodated by the Frans Masereel Centre and Z33. Presenting artists in the practice of making and thinkers in the development of thought here and now, we connect to tactile characteristics, guided by a specific focus on graphic, printed matter. The lasting result is a palm-sized book jam-packed with information and ideas on the subject. Six contemporary artists and eight international academics and authors in the field of graphic design, materiality, theory, and art explore how, in the digital age, our daily interaction with physical materials is greatly altered and how this affects us as humans.

CAN YOU FEEL IT? - EFFECTUATING TACTILITY AND PRINT IN THE CONTEMPORARY
    • Exploring the intersection of woven patterns and life dynamics, this artist book delves into the tension between established rules and creative expression. It questions whether modern digital tools have distanced us from the essence of pattern-making. Structured as multiple books with Chinese foldouts, it invites reflection on the historical significance of patterns in culture while showcasing contributions from various artists and designers. The work balances a celebration of craftsmanship with a critical examination of contemporary practices in art and design.

The Ghost of Weaving: A Meditation on Patterns
    • Reviewing the promise of technological determinism. What fulfils our world? Technology? Aesthetics? The industry rushes forth, developing new technologies that we are accordingly expected to acquire. Designers make these nice, as even iPod's are gentle to our senses. Despite all of this: what do we really need? Beauty... technological extensions of our body... what do we need? Onomatopee invited three theoreticians to reconsider these questions. In the context of the Dutch Design Week, they will use the Onomatopee project space as their study. In here, they and the visitors brainstormed and developed ideas on these topics. -- back cover.
