Albert Derolez is Emeritus Professor aan de Vrije Universiteiten van Brussel en was voorheen conservator van manuscripten en zeldzame boeken aan de Universiteitsbibliotheek van Gent. Zijn wetenschappelijke werk richt zich op de paleografie van gotische manuscriptboeken van de twaalfde tot het begin van de zestiende eeuw. Als vooraanstaand expert op het gebied van manuscriptstudies en voormalig voorzitter van het Internationaal Comité voor Latijnse Paleografie, heeft Derolez aanzienlijke bijdragen geleverd aan het vakgebied.
