Superstar comic artist Enki Bilal reimagines the Louvre as a ghostly place in this series of 22 portraits. The Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, a reclining Christ, an Egyptian bust—these and other works of art are seen through the eyes of their own particular phantom. The motley collection of men, women, and children presented in these vignettes— a Roman legionary, a muse, a painter, and a German officer, among others—have little in common other than their often violent demises and an eternity spent haunting the iconic Parisian museum. Bilal recounts the life stories of these lost souls in dramatic biographies that combine fiction and historical reality, often evoking the creation of the works in question. The paintings that compose this graphic novel were presented in a special exhibition at the Louvre in early 2013.

A do toho se ještě nad Paříží vznáší podivná létající pyramida, o které nikdo nic neví. Tak si představuje Bilal budoucnost. Přesně z toho cítíme dobu vzniku, poprvé byl totiž Jarmark publikován roku 1980. Snad jedinou chybou, která však nesníží nevšední zážitek z četby, je příliš blízké datum těchto událostí. Ale s tím má mnoho spisovatelů potíže, pokud se srabácky nechytí třeba roku 802270… Po třiceti letech, kdy byl Alkidis Nikopol za trest zmražen, spadne jeho hibernační modul do centra událostí. Život mu zachrání Horus, jeden z personifikovaných egyptských bohů z létající pyramidy, která na Paříži požaduje palivo, aby mohla letět dál. Avšak Horus má své vlastní plány a naplnit mu je má pomoci právě Nikopol. Respektive jeho tělo, do kterého Horova duše vnikne a začne ho ovládat. Zatím co se Nikopol smiřuje se svým osudem, nechá Hora jednat. Brzy se zaplete/zapletou do předvolební politické hry. Fašistický diktátor Kapustier má však vlivné přátele a důležitou podporu. Co Horus sleduje? Padne ve Francii fašismus a nastoupí Horovsko-Nikopolský socialismus? Jakou roli budou hrát ostatní bohové? A jakou Nikopolův stejně starý syn?
