Das steigende Alter bei der ersten Eheschließung hat wiederum eine wichtige Rolle bei der derzeitigen Veränderung der Fruchtbarkeit in einigen Teilen des subsaharischen Afrikas gespielt. In dieser Monografie werden die Bindungsmuster junger Frauen (im Alter von 15 bis 29 Jahren) in mehr als zwei Dutzend Ländern Afrikas südlich der Sahara untersucht, um das Ausmaß und die Art der laufenden Veränderungen beim Eintritt in die Partnerschaft in der Region zu dokumentieren und zu analysieren. Wir verwenden Daten aus den Erhebungen zur Demografie und Gesundheit (DHS). Nachdem wir die Trends bei der Eheschließung untersucht haben, analysieren wir die Faktoren, die mit diesen Trends zusammenhängen, insbesondere die Bildung und das wirtschaftliche Wohlergehen der Frauen. Abschließend bewerten wir, inwieweit der beobachtete Rückgang des prozentualen Anteils der verheirateten Frauen zu dem Fertilitätswandel in Subsahara-Afrika beiträgt.
