    Vera Chapman, ook bekend als Belladonna Took, richtte The Tolkien Society op en overtuigde J. R. R. Tolkien om de erevoorzitter te worden. Ze was een van de eerste vrouwen die zich volledig inschreef aan de Universiteit van Oxford. Chapman schreef diverse pseudo-historische en Arthuriaanse boeken. Haar schrijfcarrière liep van midden jaren '70 tot aan haar overlijden in 1996.
