Malá Elli Friedmannová si užívala čľapotanie v Dunaji a detské hry. Snívala, že bude študovať na gymnáziu v Budapešti a raz z nej bude veľká poetka. Namiesto toho však zo svojou rodinou a celou židovskou komunitou skončila v koncentračnom tábore. Z niekoľkých stoviek ľudí sa po vojne vrátilo späť do Šamorína asi tridsať. Mnohí ľudia už tento príbeh poznajú. Vedia, že 13-ročná Elii prežila len vďaka tomu, že sa pri úvodnej selekcii v koncentračnom tábore sa nemeckému dôstojníkovi zapáčili jej vlasy. Povedal jej, aby tvrdila, že má 16 rokov.
