José Luis Olaizola (* 1927) je španělský spisovatel, původním povoláním právník. Píše romány o významných historických osobnostech, jakými byli například El Cid, Hernán Cortés, Bartolomé de Las Casas, Patricio Escobar nebo svatá Terezie od Ježíše. Jeho knihy sklízejí úspěchy doma i v zahraničí. Za Oheň lásky (Planicio) dostal roku 1976 literární cenu v Sevile.

Esta novela de caballerías nos transporta al siglo XI cuando España estaba dividida en muchos reinos lo cual tenía más inconvenientes que ventajas ya que siempre había motivos para estar en guerra. Sobrevivir en la sociedad feudal no era nada fácil y para muchos la guerra se convertía en el único medio de vida. La categoría más ínfima que vivía a costa de las guerras era la de los vendedores de noticias. Iban de un bando a otro de un reino a otro traficando con la información y ofreciéndola al mejor postor. Era un oficio en extremo peligroso ya que se les consideraba como espías y las leyes permitían que fueran ahorcados o decapitados allí donde se les encontrara. Pero a Sebastián un muchacho de catorce años que vivía con su abuelo el peligro no le atemorizaba era incapaz de resistirse a la tentación de echarse al monte en busca de noticias. Lo llevaba en la sangre. Sin embargo su destino unido a su ansia por lograr un sueño le conducirá a unirse a las huestes de El Cid Campeador.
