    Val Biro was een kinderboekenauteur, kunstenaar en illustrator wiens verhalen voortkomen uit persoonlijke ervaringen en zich uitbreiden naar fantasierijke gebieden. Hij beschouwde schrijven voornamelijk als een middel om zijn illustraties te faciliteren, hoewel hij merkte dat het verhaal zijn artistieke bedoelingen vaak voorbijstreefde. Elk werk ontwikkelde zich gedurende enkele maanden voordat het op één enkele, intensieve dag werd geschreven. Zijn kenmerkende aanpak combineert realiteit met fantasie, en biedt lezers boeiende en visueel rijke verhalen.
