Kniha obsahuje drobné úvahy, záznamy a postřehy osobitého francouzského básníka, jím samým datované 1936–1974. Svazek tvoří dvě knihy zápisků jihofrancouzského básníka, které jsou zároveň svéráznými básnickými záznamy. Na přebalu a frontispisu kresby Vincenta van Gogha.

Komentovaný výbor z korespondence, dobových ohlasů, fotografií a dalších dokumentů, budovaný na půdorysu Célinova života a díla, sleduje ohlas veškerých jeho textů od vydání prvotiny až po současnost, přičemž českou kritickou recepci (F. X. Šalda, F. Peroutka, J. Vašica, R. Weiner, K. Čapek, B. Hrabal, underground ad.) zasazuje do mezinárodního kontextu. Východiskem ke knize byla stejnojmenná textově obrazová koláž, kterou překladatelka Célinova díla Anna Kareninová z iniciativy redakce připravila pro čtvrtletník Revolver Revue č. 70/2008 u příležitosti 75. výročí vydání kongeniálního českého – a ve světě vůbec prvního – překladu Cesty do hlubin noci (J. Zaorálek) a na kterou navázala velká anketa „Céline v Čechách“ v RR č. 74/2008. Kniha vychází v grafické úpravě Viktora Karlíka a Luďka Kubíka.
