In the remote town of Artemis, Texas, a community seeking solitude faces unexpected turmoil as drug cartels turn the area into a battleground. With a population of 2500, the locals grapple with the violence spilling over from the Rio Grande, leading many to take matters into their own hands rather than rely on police chief Josie Gray. The struggle between maintaining their independence and confronting the escalating danger from drug runners creates a tense atmosphere in this once peaceful town.

A community known as The Drummers move into an abandoned church in Artemis, Texas. They claim to want to live peacefully "off grid" but when local power substations are sabotaged they are the prime suspects. When Police Chief Josie Gray tries to enter the church bullets fly and she is accused by the leader of the group of killing a young girl.

After two young girls go missing and one of the families believes the police aren't interested in helping them, retired homicide cop turned radio presenter Maggie Wise is asked to help. Maggie befriends the family and when the children are returned and the abductor is found dead, suspicion falls on the family Maggie now feels protective of.

Mayoral elections are looming in Artemis, and one candidate's proposal to build a racetrack has divided the town. Tensions rise as dogs are stolen from a greyhound breeder - she vows vengeance, only to be found dead herself. Josie Gray, Chief of Police, must discover who is willing to kill for their cause before others get caught in the crossfire.
