Komiks vyšel roku 1959, ve stejném roce vyšel i příběh Lovec šmoulů, v němž měli svou premiéru Gargamel a jeho kocour Azrael, oba pověstní nepřátelé šmoulího národa. Čeští čtenáři tak mají možnost se seznámit s úplnými počátky šmoulí historie.
