Lustige Katzenbilder mit makabren Sprüchen, die über Social Media geteilt werden, digitale Bilder, die unsichtbar durch die Infrastruktur des Internets zirkulieren oder online beauftragte Arbeitskräfte, die moralisch fragwürdige Inhalte erstellen oder aus dem Netz entfernen: Seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre untersuchen Eva & Franco Mattes die Auswirkungen des Internets auf unseren Alltag, und reflektieren, wie vernetzte Bilder zunehmend unser privates und soziales Verhalten mitbestimmen. Dabei beleuchtet das künstlerische Duo die undurchsichtigen Mechanismen, Infrastrukturen und Verhaltensformen unserer vernetzten Gesellschaft - und halten den Zuschauer:innen schonungslos und mit einer guten Prise schwarzem Humor den Spiegel vor. Eva & Franco Mattes, geboren 1976 in Brescia (Italien), leben und arbeiten in New York. -- Funny cat pics with creepy captions shared on social media, digital images that circulate unseen through the internet's infrastructure, or anonymous workers hired online to create morally dubious content or to remove it from the web: Eva & Franco Mattes have been investigating the internet's effects on our daily lives since the 1990s, reflecting on how networked images increasingly define our private and social behaviour. In the process, the artist duo dissect the opaque mechanisms of our networked society, its infrastructures and forms of online spectatorship-holding up a mirror to the viewer that is at once unsparing and darkly humorous. The human body is the central theme and tool in Lotta Gadola's artistic work. The interest is focused on the discussions about, around and with the body, in connection with social and identity-creating topics. From the body's own hair, through the contact lens to the smartphone?the body and its physical prostheses and mental extensions are often the subject of the investigation. In the image-search the artist draws on precise observations of everyday life. The publication of the "Junge Kunst Stadt Luzern" series focuses on the youngest groups of work, consisting of performance, video works and photographic series. In order to translate the cinematic of the artistic creation into book form, individual video sequences are prepared as flipbooks and enable different speeds of reading of the contributions, which are contextualized by an art-historical and media-theoretical text.
