Das Cranach-Retabel in der Schneeberger St. Wolfgangskirche
Gestaltet in der Tradition spätmittelalterlicher Wandelretabel und platziert im Zentrum des 1540 vollendeten »Bergmannsdoms«, einer der größten spätgotischen Hallenkirchen Sachsens, gesteht das erst 1996 wiederhergestellte Retabel dem Bild auf neuartige Weise eine Identität stiftende Funktion zu. Der Band thematisiert dieses Faktum aus interdisziplinärer Sicht in 14 Beiträgen von Kunsthistorikern, Theologen und Denkmalpflegern. Gestützt u. a. auf neue Quellenfunde wird das Altarwerk dabei als ein künstlerisch innovatives, (bild-) theologisch und politisch aufgeladenes sowie visuell und liturgisch argumentierendes Medium diskutiert.
