John Marshall

    John Marshall was een Amerikaanse staatsman en jurist die het Amerikaanse constitutionele recht vormgaf en het Hooggerechtshof transformeerde tot een machtscentrum. Marshall domineerde het Hof ruim drie decennia lang en speelde een cruciale rol in de ontwikkeling van het Amerikaanse rechtssysteem. Meest opmerkelijk vestigde hij het principe van rechterlijke toetsing, de bevoegdheid om wetten die de grondwet schenden ongeldig te verklaren.
