Ateizmus ako svetonázor vychádza z veľmi jednoduchej myšlienky: človek nepotrebuje boha vôbec na nič. Nepotrebuje ho na vysvetlenie žiadneho prírodného javu, na dosahovanie žiadnych cieľov, ani na podporu morálky. Boh je podľa ateistu jednoducho zbytočná hypotéza, ktorá popis sveta iba komplikuje. Keďže táto kniha je určená slovenským čitateľom, nebudeme sa v nej sústreďovať na argumentáciu proti budhizmu či lamaizmu, islamu ani hinduizmu, ale primárnu pozornosť budeme venovať kresťanstvu, ktoré každý dôverne pozná. Svätou knihou kresťanstva je Biblia. V podstate by sme mohli kresťanstvo posudzovať len podľa nej, lebo je spoločným východiskom pre všetky veľké kresťanské denominácie aj drobné sekty.
