At first sight, the two rivers flowing through the city of Lyon are quite dissimilar: the Saône is placid and heavy with history, while the once tumultuous waters of the Rhône have now been considerably tamed by modern hydro-electric constructions. Yet the two rivers come together at the city's southern extremity and flow as one down to the Mediterranean. Throughout the centuries, the Rhône and Saône rivers have always played an important part in the history of the city. The author draws the reader to explore the charms of Lyon's river environment by means of series of walks along the embankments of Saône and Rhône.
