Zij onthult diverse bizarre, lugubere details, waarin spookverschijningen en vreemde kleurrijke personages een rol spelen. Ten slotte geeft zij een gruwelijk geheim indirect en langzaam prijs, wat haar biografe heftig beroert. Een debuutroman met aardige, soms wat gechargeerde vondsten, boeiend en meeslepend geschreven met een vleugje 'black humor', maar dat niet op het niveau staat van Du Maurier en Bronte aan wie de auteur een eresaluut wil brengen.
