De speler is een roman van Fjodor Dostojewski. In een burleske en soms grotesk komische verhaal rond een groep mensen die op het punt staan van financiële ondergang, wachten ze in het fictieve kuuroord Roulettenburg op de reddende erfenis. Het boek biedt nauwkeurige en gedetailleerde beschrijvingen van de gokverslaving, die Dostojewski uit eigen ervaring kende. De speler verscheen in 1866, kort na Schuld en boete; Dostojewski dicteerde het in slechts 26 dagen aan zijn stenotypiste en latere vrouw Anna. Het verhaal heeft autobiografische elementen, waarbij Roulettenburg kan worden geassocieerd met Wiesbaden, waar Dostojewski zelf voor het eerst roulette speelde, of met Bad Homburg. Deze steden claimen beiden de inspiratie voor Dostojewski's Roulettenburg te zijn. De roman diende als basis voor Sergei Prokofjews gelijknamige opera (1917) en verschillende verfilmingen.
