Má Světakraj ještě naději, že v něm zavládnou lepší časy? Hrdinou pátého dílu Kronik Světakraje je zakřiknutý podknihovník Vránek. Žije pod ochranou učených knihovníků ve stokách pod Dolním Městem, ve stínu Nového Svatého Fraxu. Celý Světakraj totiž ovládli zlopověstní Strážci noci, a kdo se s nimi odmítl spojit, musí se skrývat.
