Hazelden-Pittman Archives Press is greatful to offer this commemoratve edition of the original August 1946 first printing of The Little Red Book. For fifty years, this book has helped millions of individuals gain a better understanding of alcoholism, the AA program, the book Alcoholics Anonymous, and the journey of Twelve Step recovery. The events surrounding the 1946 publication of The Little Red Book are closely tied to the cofounders of AA, Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, the beginnings of AA in Minnesota, the Nicollet AA Group of Minneapolis, and the growth and structure of AA in the 1940s.

Metro hat für mich immer etwas mit New York zu tun. Ich würde ja gerne behaupten,dass ich alles im Griff hatte,als ich dort ankam - mit Fünf- und Zehnjahresplänen, einer Erfolgsstrategie und einem Finanzplan. Aber nichts davon hatte ich. Tatsächlich hatte ich keine blassen Schimmer davon, wie ich das Ganze umsetzen könnte - mich trieb nur der nackte Wille, gebrochene und leidende Kinder zu retten. Jahrelang hatte ich auf so genannte Experten gehört, die mir weismachen wollten, dass das, was ich auf dem Herzen hatte, nicht durchgeführt werden könne - besonders in New York. Aber ich wusste, dass das nicht stimmte. Ich stemmte mich dagegen zu glauben, dass ein Dienst unter Kindern in der Innenstadt überall unmöglich sei - besonders in New York. Verlorene Kinder ist die Geschichte über eine Stadt voller Kinder, die heute hoffnungsvoll auf die Zukunft schauen, weil ich mich weigerte zu glauben, dass Gott etwas unmöglich sein sollte - sogar in New York.
