    Rolf Toman wilde oorspronkelijk leraar worden, maar werkte de jaren na zijn tweede staatsexamen als redacteur bij een groot internationaal uitgeverij. Vanaf 1992 werkte hij als onafhankelijk uitgever voor diverse internationale uitgeverijen. Publicaties over kunstgeschiedenisepochen stonden centraal in zijn werk.
