The extraordinary events of the last few years have made this eighth edition come sooner than usual after its predecessor. A history of the French experiment in compulsory arbitration for settling labor disputes from its origins in the sit-down strikes of June 1936 to its wartime suspension. Describes the circumstances under which the government introduced compulsory arbitration, examines the nature of the system that was adopted, explores the problems that arose in the operation of the system, and evaluates the results.
