Eine Analyse drogenfreier Hardcore-Punk-Kultur. Straight Edge entstand Anfang der 1980er Jahre als eine drogenfreie Subkultur innerhalb der Hardcore-Punk-Szene. Bald entwickelte sich daraus eine Bewegung, die sich auf alle Kontinente ausdehnte. 1981 schrieb Ian MacKaye, damals Sänger der Washington-D. C.-Hardcore-Band Minor Threat, den Song „Straight Edge“, um seinen Verzicht auf Alkohol-, Nikotin- und Drogenkonsum innerhalb der Hardcore-Punk-Szene zu verteidigen. Er initiierte damit – gegen seine ausdrücklichen Intentionen – eine Bewegung, die bis heute eine fixe Größe in der Welt des Hardcore-Punk darstellt. Dieses Buch zeichnet die Geschichte der Straight-Edge-Bewegung nach: von den Anfängen in Washington, D. C. über die sogenannten Youth-Crew-Bands der späten 1980er Jahre und die Vegan-Straight-Edge-Bewegung der 1990er bis hin zu der vielfältigen Straight-Edge-Kultur der Gegenwart.
