The 2020 Tropentag conference faced unprecedented challenges due to the Corona pandemic, which prevented in-person attendance in Prague. In response, ATSAF successfully transitioned the event to a virtual format, utilizing Zoom for meetings and streaming on YouTube, with Whova as the online platform. This annual interdisciplinary conference focuses on development-oriented research in sub-/tropical agriculture, food security, natural resource management, and rural development, showcasing resilience in adapting to new circumstances.

The Tropentag conference focuses on development-oriented research in tropical and subtropical agriculture, food security, and rural development. In 2021, it adapted to challenges posed by recent years by hosting a hybrid format, allowing participants to join both in person at the University of Hohenheim and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, as well as online via Zoom and YouTube. This innovative approach facilitated a broader exchange of ideas and collaboration among researchers from various disciplines.

Tropentag is the largest interdisciplinary conference in Europe on research in sub-/tropical agriculture, food security, natural resource management and rural development. Taking place annually, Tropentag 2019 is jointly organised by the Centre for International Rural Development at the University of Kassel and the Centre of Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Use at the University of Göttingen, and takes place at the University of Kassel’s main campus from 18 to 20 September 2019.
