La fama di Edgar Allan Poe è legata principalmente ai suoi celebri racconti, ma le sue poesie non sono di minor fascino e hanno assunto un preciso significato nella storia della lirica moderna. Una di esse, Il Corvo, ebbe tanto successo da procurare allo scrittore il nomignolo di «Mr. Raven» («signor Corvo», appunto).
