Ganze Armeen wurden von einigen deutschen Landesfürsten verkauft und ins sagenhafte Amerika verschifft. Sie lieferten England alles, was nur aufzutreiben war und machten daraus einen einträglichen Handel. Was aus den Menschen wurde, kümmerte die Hoheiten nicht. Sie schickten ganz junge, alte oder gar kranke Männer als Söldner nach Amerika. Von den verkauften 19.000 Hessen kamen nur die Hälfte wieder in die Heimat zurück.
