Ganze Armeen wurden von einigen deutschen Landesfürsten verkauft und ins sagenhafte Amerika verschifft. Sie lieferten England alles, was nur aufzutreiben war und machten daraus einen einträglichen Handel. Was aus den Menschen wurde, kümmerte die Hoheiten nicht. Sie schickten ganz junge, alte oder gar kranke Männer als Söldner nach Amerika. Von den verkauften 19.000 Hessen kamen nur die Hälfte wieder in die Heimat zurück. Nur wenige sind im Kampf gefallen, dagegen 4.000 Mann an Krankheiten wie Ruhr und Typhus oder Erfrierung gestorben und 3.000 freiwillig in Amerika geblieben. Sachkundig, eindrucksvoll und auch empört beschreibt Autor Friedrich Kapp die Zustände des Menschenhandels, der vielen Herrschern des 18. Jahrhunderts dringend benötigte Einkünfte sicherte. Ein seltenes und frühes Zeugnis über die einträglichen Geschäfte des Adels mit der Ware Mensch!
