Deze auteur, oorspronkelijk uit Noord-Oost Engeland, heeft altijd verhalen geschreven, zelfs tijdens zijn tijd als monteur van straaljagers bij de Royal Air Force en als milieuwetenschapper. Als thuisblijvende vader werd schrijven een echt onderdeel van zijn werk, wat leidde tot zijn debuut, een verhaal over het einde van chocolade. Zijn werk is in meerdere talen vertaald. Momenteel werkt hij aan een nieuwe boekenreeks.
