Founded in 1963 by Ulrich Conrads and later joined by Peter Neitzke, this renowned series on architecture and urban development has grown to over 150 titles, making it the most comprehensive German-language collection in these fields. Following the passing of Conrads and Neitzke, a new editorial team—Elisabeth Blum, Jesko Fezer, Gunther Fischer, and Angelika Schnell—has taken the helm, committed to preserving the series' legacy. The series aims to document the construction and urban planning concepts of the twentieth century while also exploring foundational ideas rather than transient opinions on contemporary architectural issues. By analyzing complex interrelationships, the series fosters meaningful discourse and debate. It focuses on architecture and urbanism, incorporating historical inquiries and extending into cultural and social realms, with an emphasis on international perspectives and increased representation of female authors. The original graphic design by Helmut Lortz is retained, ensuring that titles remain simply designed in black and white, reflecting the series' broad appeal to those interested in the cultural context of urban and architectural development.
