The concept of archetypes and its correlate, that of the collective unconscious, are among the best known theories devised by Jung. Volume 9 of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung consists of writings describing and elaborating the two concepts. This edition is extracted from The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, Part 1 of Volume 9, and the four essays in this selection describes specific archetypes. The book includes a brief theoretical introduction, and there is a bibliography of works relevant to this selection.
