In Württemberg in 1804, the Rehbach saltworks has been owned by the von Graauw family for generations. When Georg von Graauw is entrusted with its management by his father, he plans to transform it into a spa. However, his unconventional and determined sister Dorothea has other ideas: she aims to mine salt. When Georg departs on a lengthy journey, Dorothea seizes the opportunity to take charge of the saltworks and initiates the digging of a shaft.
