Set against the backdrop of the 1970 Los Angeles teachers' strike, the story explores the budding romance between Art Malamud, a dedicated teacher and union rep, and Mandy Sayer, a new faculty member facing challenges in her career. As Art fights for teachers' rights, Mandy struggles with an unjust evaluation and increasing scrutiny from the principal, Vivian Laws. Their relationship is tested as Mandy's battle with the school district escalates, jeopardizing both her professional aspirations and her future with Art.
