Exploring the dynamics of vaccine refusal among Afro-Barbadians, the author challenges conventional views of hesitancy by framing it as a deeply rooted suspicion shaped by historical traumas of colonialism and biopolitical violence. Through ethnographic research and interdisciplinary perspectives, the work highlights how emotions and gut feelings inform this mistrust of government and medical practices. By situating suspicion within broader cultural and political contexts, it opens new dialogues about racialized biopolitics, neocolonialism, and healthcare within the Black diaspora.
