Set in 670 AD, the story unfolds during a royal feast hosted by King Colgú, where Fidelma and Eadulf are eager to reconnect with their son after months of crime-solving. Their celebration is abruptly shattered when a religieux bursts in, delivering a cryptic warning before fatally attacking the king. The chaos escalates as the assassin is killed, but not before injuring Colgú’s bodyguard and leaving the king's life hanging in the balance. As tensions rise, Fidelma and Eadulf must navigate the perilous aftermath.
