Ruby Mildred Ayres, a prolific British romance novelist, began her writing journey in her youth, claiming to have been expelled for penning an "advanced love story." Her literary career took off after her marriage in 1909, with her first novel, Castles in Spain, published in 1912. Ayres achieved significant success with Richard Chatterton, V. C. in 1915, which sold over 50,000 copies within three years, leading her to a new publishing partnership with Hodder and Stoughton. Her legacy marks her as one of the twentieth century's most beloved romantic authors.
