Set in 1347, the story follows Alaun de Montisfryth, a nobleman tasked with securing the Welsh border after the fall of Calais. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he attends a tournament hosted by the de Versallet family, where he encounters Eloise, the sharp-tongued widow ruling the castle. Despite their initial clash, a complex attraction develops between them.
