Houston, along with his wife Alma, are credited with the international popularization of Inuit art. Landing in Canada's Eastern Arctic in 1948, they helped establish the original West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, which continues to develop and market Inuit art around the world. This collection of 100 short chapters gathers vignettes of life in the north in the 1940s and 50s, as the Houstons discover the arctic, the Inuit and their art.
