Crown Prince Galefrid of Oakharne and his entourage are murdered by the witch Dorne. Only mercenary Brys Tarnell escapes and protects the young son of the prince. While fleeing from Dorne and her undead minions, Brys attempts to bring the child to Prince Leferic, unaware that Dorne is acting on the prince's orders.
