Sixteen-year-old Ema has a poor relationship with her parents. The only person she trusts is her grandmother. When she dies, Ema discovers a diary that relates the life of a soldier assigned to Sobibor, an extermination camp in Poland. As she reads, Ema learns that her grandmother was involved with the author of the diary, and uncovers a terrible secret that her family has kept silent for decades.
