As Milica's husband Dusan, a renowned art critic, attempts to save as many people as possible from deportation during the war, the couple grows increasingly distant. Tito's victory seals the family's fate: Dusan is executed for alleged collaboration, and their neighbors, who have transformed into eager and cruel servants of the new regime, loot their apartment. Milica is treated as a traitor by those whose lives she saved years earlier.
