Samsara is set in Tibet in the late nineteenth century, an untamed and mysterious land. Lhasa, the residence of the Dalai Lama, is a forbidden city where death awaits any foreigner who dares enter its sacred walls. For the British and Russian empires, Tibet has become a strategically vital country to conquer. Into this turbulent realm come two young people, drawn together by deep emotions yet torn apart by conflicting loyalties. Lewis Joyden is a handsome Englishman who travels disguised as a Buddhist monk to survey the land in preparation for a British invasion. Sonya Vremya is a fiercely independent Russian princess on a quest to find her brother, who has vanished while on a mission from the Tsar, and to track down her unloving husband to beg for a divorce. Though separated by national conflicts, they face the dangers and uncertainties of a strange and magical country, drawing ever closer amid the perils that threaten them.
