Valentine, an ambitious young writer living in Switzerland, is obsessed by the fate of the illustrious Russian oil magnate, Khodorkovski, presently imprisoned in the Siberian gulag. Although her Swiss friends warn her that he is most certainly nothing more than a hooligan who managed to acquire his amazing wealth through shady, corrupt dealings, she is convinced that there is more to the tale than meets the eye. In this highly satirical account, the reader follows the path of Valentine to Moscow and eventually, Siberia. A wide cast of characters invariably cross her path and the reader is drawn into the Kafkaesque world of modern Russia.
