The authors critique both population pessimists, who foresee catastrophic resource depletion, and optimists, who believe technological advancements can resolve all issues related to population growth. They propose that new technologies aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of rapid population growth can grant the world essential time to implement the multifaceted strategies required to lower growth rates to sustainable levels.
